About Bay County Library System
|
Mission Statement |
"...to promote the love of reading and foster the pursuit of knowledge by delivering quality library service which furthers the information, education, recreation and cultural interests of the community, thus enriching the quality of life for all county residents."
To help carry out this mission, the Bay County Library System provides five branch libraries and a bookmobile and maintains membership in the Mideastern Michigan Library Cooperative and the Valley Library Consortium.
We are located in Bay County, Michigan, on Saginaw Bay.
History
The Bay County Library System was established on January 1, 1974, after the county electorate approved a .7 mill tax levy for five years. The Library System brought together three libraries (Bay City Public Library and its Broadway Branch, Sage Library, Pinconning Library), which previously were funded separately and independently by the cities of Bay City and Pinconning.
These branches, together with the Auburn Area Branch Library (established in September, 1973), the South Side Branch Library (formerly the Broadway Branch), and the Bookmobile (which began operation in March, 1975) comprised the six "service outlets" of the Library System. |
