Computer Class Curriculum Guide
Intro to Computers
Requirements: Mouse skills are not required for this class.
Description: This class addresses the absolute basics of computer use including the following:
Using the mouse, opening, closing, saving and printing documents.
Intro to the Internet
Requirements: Mouse skills are encouraged, but not required for this class.
Description: This class addresses the basics of internet use, building upon the skills given in the Intro to Computers class. In this class students will gain a basic understanding of how to navigate the internet.
Basic MS Word 2007
Requirements: Mouse skills are highly encouraged, but not required for this class.
Description: This class addresses the basics of MS Word, building upon the brief introduction that was given in Intro to Computers. In this class students will learn formatting, font styles, creating lists and editing documents.
Using MS Word 2007
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class.
Description: This class serves two purposes. 1) It helps those students already familiar with MS Word 2003, as they transition to MS Word 2007 2) It also serves as a refresher course for those students who have either taken the Basic MS Word course at the Bay County Library System or those who have previous experience with the software.
Intermediate MS Word
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class. This class is intended for students who have completed either Basic MS Word, Using MS Word, or possess equivalent knowledge.
Description: This class builds upon the basic skills given in Basic MS Word. In this class students will review concepts from Basic MS Word and learn how to insert headers, footers, tables, columns, templates and mail merge.
Basic MS Excel 2007
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class. Previous experience with MS Word is encouraged, but not required.
Description: This class introduces students to the creation of spreadsheets in MS Excel. In this class students will learn how to open and save a spreadsheet; enter data and create formulas in a cell.
Using MS Excel 2007
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class.

Basic MS Publisher
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class. Previous experience with MS Word is encouraged, but not required.
Description: This class introduces students to the creation of a greeting card in MS Publisher. In this class students will learn how to open and save projects; create and format text boxes and insert pictures.
Introduction to Social Networking – Twitter
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class. Previous experience with Basic Internet use is also required. Students must come prepared with an email address and at least three ideas for Twitter user names. A handout is provided upon signing up to assist students in the selection of a username.
Description: This class introduces students to the creation and use of a Twitter account. In this class students will learn how to create and maintain a Twitter account.
Organizing and Backing up Files
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class. Basic Internet use is also required. Previous experience with MS Word, especially the saving of files is highly recommended, but not required.
Description: This class introduces students to the most efficient ways to store files and ensure a proper backup. In this class students will learn how to name files, create directory structures and backup documents on various internal and external drives.
Editing Digital Photographs
Requirements: Mouse skills are required for this class. Previous experience with MS Word encouraged, but not required.
Description: This class introduces students to digital photo editing using the free software G.I.M.P. In this class students will learn how to download and install pictures from camera; resizing, cropping and editing photos.
