The Friends of the Bay County Libraries is an all-volunteer organization that raises money and otherwise provides assistance for the enhancement of library operations. Membership is comprised of people from throughout Bay County who feel passionate about their libraries. The Friends are governed by a Board of Directors, who are elected annually. The current President is John Van Looy, who can be reached at (989) 892-9726. If you are interested in joining, envelopes which include registration and membership fee information, are available at any of the library branches. You may also print out a form, fill it out and mail it, along with a check, to our administrative office at the Alice & Jack Wirt Public Library, 500 Center Avenue, Bay City, MI 48708.

|Book lovers from across Michigan and even from out-of-state are expected to shop the sale, which is one of the largest in Michigan. The tens of thousands of items offered, such as former best sellers, special interest, children’s materials, reference sources, magazines, records, CDs, books on tape, DVDs and more, come from either the library’s retired collection or from donations made by generous citizens.
Material prices will remain the same as last year’s: Thursday hard covers will sell for $2.00 and paperbacks for $1.00, Friday prices will drop to $1.00 for hardcover and $0.50 paperback, children’s books will be $.50 both days and audiovisual items such as CDs, DVDs, books on tape and more will also be priced to move. During the Saturday clearance, everything goes for $3.00 per box or bag!
All proceeds from the book sale are used by the Friends to buy equipment, materials and services for the public not made possible through the library system’s operating budget. The Bay County Library System serves approximately 107,000 residents through four branch locations in Bay City, Pinconning and Auburn, and a Bookmobile. Earnings from former book sales have supplied video players and funded such projects as children’s reading programs, library publications, visits by children’s authors, and community meeting room furniture.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!
Friends Call for Donations
The Friends of the Bay County Libraries need your help! We are currently seeking donations of used or unwanted materials for our Annual Book Sale. Proceeds from the sale support programming and other expenses not afforded by the Bay County Library System’s regular budget. If you have materials you wish to donate, please call any of our branch libraries to arrange drop off.
We also need people who have a little extra time they would like to donate to make our book sale successful. We have a multitude of jobs available for those who wish to help us.
