The Bay County Library System
Library Card Information
Library cards are required for the borrowing of library materials and the use of library computer workstations. Cards are available at no charge to all Michigan residents.
Sign up for a Library Card
A card may be obtained by filling out a simple application form at any branch library. The applicant will be asked to show valid ID before a card is issued. "Valid ID" can be a drivers license, State of Michigan ID, Student ID (with address), utility bill, checks with pre-printed name and address, or cancelled mail. A parent's or legal guardian's signature is required for applicants under the age of 18.
Loan Periods

Most circulating materials are checked out for a period of 21 days. Renewals are allowed if no one has placed a request on the item. New items may be renewed once. Other items may be renewed twice. Renewals may be requested in person or by calling any branch or by using the "My Account" feature of the online catalog.
(Note that items with user fees, such as DVDs, may only be renewed by visiting a branch.)

Online Catalog
The Public Access Catalog is provided through our membership in the Valley Library Consortium. It lists the holdings (books, compact discs, videos, magazines, CD-ROMs, etc.) of over 60 different libraries throughout the Thumb, Tri-Cities, and surrounding area. Please note that system maintenance makes the catalog unavailable the morning of the first Sunday of each month, beginning at 2:00 a.m. and running until as late at 7:30 a.m., eastern time.
Connect to the catalog: In addition to allowing you to search the catalog, this connection will allow you to place requests for holds on titles and renew items you have checked out by logging into "My Account". Please note that the request-placing system will NOT make items immediately available at the checkout desk after you place your request. NOTE: the catalog connection at left and in the right hand margin is accessed through a secure server. If you have difficulties with the secure connection (or don't have need of a secure connection), you can use this non-secure link.
E Books Catalog
If you don't find the book you're looking for in the catalog, you might want to try searching our collection of ebooks. See our netLibrary page for more information and a link to netLibrary.

Late Charges for Overdue Materials
Overdue fines are charged for items returned past the due date. For items from the Adult and Teen collections, the fine is 10-cents per item per day. For items from the Children's collections, the fine is 5-cents per item per day. Patrons who lose an item are charged the cost of the item. Patrons with "Lost" items must clear their record before additional items may be checked out.
Get Notified by Email

Be notified BY EMAIL when:

  • An item is available for pickup for which you placed a "REQUEST"
  • Borrowed items are overdue - 1st notification only. "Second notices" will
    not
be sent by e-mail. They will continue to be paper notices, sent by
    regular mail.

Please! Tell us what you think...

Library trustees and staff value your opinion,
and patron involvement helps make our libraries better.
Let us know if we're doing things right, or if you think a change is needed!
