Storyteller’s Corner at Tall Ship Celebration
The Friends of the Bay County Library System and BCLS staff are excited to invite you to their Storyteller’s
Corner at Tall Ship Celebration, July 15-17 in Wenonah Park, downtown Bay City. Some of Michigan’s best
storytellers will spin yarns about our great state, the Great Lakes, and life at sea. No registration required.

Lee Murdock has a boundless repertoire of music and stories of the Great Lakes. His music is of the work
song tradition, from the rugged days of lumberjacks, wooden sailing schooners, and authentic sailing songs.
Lee performs on Friday, July 15 at 10:30 am and 3 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17 at
10:15 am and 2:15 pm.

Jim Ribby describes himself as a bard, the Celtic word for storyteller. Bard is the traditional name for this
ancient art of preserving and telling stories aloud to listeners. Ribby dramatically recites poems in a unique
storytelling performance. Jim will be performing on Friday, July 15 at 11:30 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm.

Bernie Davis hails from Liverpool, England. He enlivens the history of sea-songs, and is a well known
performer at many of the top U.K. shanty and maritime festivals. Bernie will perform Friday, July 15 at 12:30
pm and Sunday, July 17 at 12:15 pm.

A. Trae McMaken brings history, personal experience, traditional tales, and lost places to life through
storytelling. His home in the rural Great Lakes region has provided him with deep and rugged stories of
an often forgotten landscape and people. His world travels as a fiddler and adventurer have enriched the
stories he shares with others. See him perform on Saturday, July 16 at 11:15 am, 1:15 pm, and 4:15 pm.

Jackie Davidson and Gary Brandt’s show, “Singing the Good Old Songs Again,” combines classic and
original folk songs into an energetic, entertaining, and fun performance featuring humor and audience
participation. They will perform on Saturday, July 16 at 12:15 pm and 3:15 pm, and Sunday, July 17 at 11:15
am and 3:15 pm.

Ric Mixter is a recognized shipwreck researcher, diving over 100 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, including
the Edmund Fitzgerald. He has produced over 30 programs for PBS and the Outdoor Channel, and
appeared as a shipwreck expert on the History and Discovery Channels. He is a well-known energetic
storyteller. Ric performs on Sunday, July 17 at 1:15 pm and 4:15 pm.

children’s authors, and community meeting room furniture.
