South Side Branch Renderings

These preliminary architects' renderings were presented at a public gathering at the Delta College Planetarium in Bay City. Click on an image for a larger view. Please be aware that these are STILL preliminary plans. This remains a work in progress! Please see our "Overview" page for a summary of the system project, and "Branching Out", the library's newsletter, for the latest information. Photos of projects currently underway can be found here.

South Side Site Plan

The main entrance to the building would be moved away from the parking lot entrance for increased safety. A covered arcade (part of the addition on the west) would lead from the sidewalk on LaFayette to the entrance. An approach drive and garage for the bookmobile would be located at the north side of the building. A drive-up book return would be located on the north side of the building. Patron parking would be increased and the landscape enhanced.

"North" is at the right of the image.

South Side Floor Plan

The entrance would remain on the west side, but move to the middle of the building. Restrooms and a program room would be located off the entry lobby with the circulation desk just inside the "library proper" as you enter from the lobby. The young people's collection would occupy the southeast corner of the building, with adult services occupying the southwest corner. A small bank of computer workstations would be located between these two areas. Seating would be located around the perimeter of the building. More windows will add natural light. In addition to branch staff workspace, the non-public areas of the building would be used to house the system's Outreach Services Department and bookmobile.

South Side Elevation

This would be the view from the southwest corner of the parking lot along LaFayette, showing the arcade-covered walkway to the entrance.
