-
Books: Fiction collections cover the board book and picture

favorites, and popular characters are all included.
Information books range in the same reading levels and are available
in appealing formats for browsers as well as those working on homework.

Homework
It is necessary for school-age children to have access to good, current
information sources for their homework. The Bay County Library System is
ready to help in a number of ways:
Our branches have books to help with a wide range of homework topics;
from reports to specific questions. Whether it's a science fair project,
a report on pandas, or a book report on a current sports figure, we have
materials to help.
Internet for public use is available at all branch libraries. In addition,
the library's "TeenPage"
on the web maintains a "Homework
Center" with lots of great links.

Puppet
Shows
In 1981, the Bay County Library System began an outreach program to the
elementary schools by bringing picture books to life through puppet shows.
Our puppeteers consist of three groups with three members each, with the
children's librarians at Sage and Bay City branches each heading up one
group.
The Puppet Season officially runs from January to May each year, when
we visit elementary schools in Bay County. We also offer several programs
at preschools throughout the county, some of which are open to the public to bring their preschoolers. In this way, we hope to offer every child an opportunity to see our puppet shows.
Each performance includes two shows, with a short discussion of available
library materials and activities, and an opportunity for the children to
ask questions. While we are always on the lookout for new stories to adapt,
we do bring back favorites every five years or so.
While the Puppet performances take place during the last half of the
school year, our puppeteers are busy the rest of the year planning the
upcoming shows, revising scripts, painting backdrops, gathering props,
looking for puppets and practicing, practicing, practicing! Because of
the intensity and focus of this program the library is unable to offer
additional puppet shows to other community groups at this time.
