Join us at each branch to celebrate the relaunch of our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program! Sign up for the new program while enjoying stories, early literacy activities, and cake! For children who have not yet started kindergarten.

Read your way toward kindergarten readiness! 1000 Books Before Kindergarten (1000B4K) is a self-guided, read-at-home program for all children, from birth up until the time they start school. The goal? For every child to be exposed to at least 1000 books before kindergarten.

Sign up to receive a tracking booklet to keep track of all of the books you and your child read together. Earn badges and prizes along the way, and build a strong early literacy foundation to help get your child ready to read on their own.

Bay County Library System runs 1000B4K on a continuous basis; the only deadline is your child’s kindergarten year! 1000B4K is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children.

The library makes every effort to ensure our programs can be enjoyed by all. If you have any concerns about accessibility or need to request specific accommodations, please contact the library.

Registration is required.  Please register in person, by phone, or online.
