Program Description
Event Details
Instructor and rockhound Kim Bigard will lead participants in polishing a Petoskey stone. Formed from fossilized Hexagonaria coral, Michigan's state stone is a treasure to find and shows beautiful honeycomb-shaped patterns when polished. You'll learn where to look for them, what is legal to collect, and how to polish your stone to create the smooth surface and visible patterning that make them so unique. Participants will leave with a polished Petoskey stone to keep and the knowledge to carry on this fun new hobby. Adults and teens (grades 6 and up) are invited to attend. Please register with a valid phone number where you can be reached. You will be contacted by the library for verbal confirmation of attendance within a week of the scheduled program.
