I am a sucker for romantic comedies. From the iconic lines, to the predictable plots, to the part where I want to yell at the characters because this could all be solved if they just talked to each other, they are just such a wonderful form of entertainment. And on top of everything else, rom-coms are a great escape read (or watch). I mean, doesn’t it sound nice to relax in the sun with a light, frothy read smiling and laughing?

The past few years have solidified my enjoyment of audiobooks. I am now choosing books based on my favorite readers as well as my favorite authors. I listen while walking outside, driving in my car, or even doing activities like knitting or washing dishes. While I am typically a fiction reader, nonfiction audiobooks have made reading biographies and true tales more engaging for me. I am especially a fan of actor and comedian memoirs read by the author; they know how they want jokes to hit and…
In a world that is dominated by series, you may not be looking for that kind of commitment. Instead you may be looking for the satisfying feeling of reading a story with a set beginning, middle, and end, with no cliffhangers or set-ups for the book. Stand alone stories sometimes feel hidden in the teen section, with juggernauts of series or properties (like Marvel or Disney) taking up so much shelf real estate. Below are a few of my favorite stories, sprinkled in with a couple upcoming titles…
