September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and at BCLS, we’re celebrating!! Your library card is more than just a card - it’s your all-access pass to books, movies, technology, and experiences that can spark creativity and open doors.
How to Get a Library Card
Getting your card is easy:
- Bay County Residents: Stop by any BCLS branch to fill out an application, or download one from our website to complete at home. Bring a photo ID with your current address, such as a driver’s license. If your ID doesn’t have your current address, you can bring a utility bill, student ID, or request a postcard verification.
- Kids & Teens: Parents or guardians must sign for minors under 18.
- Special Programs: Kids 12 and under can join our My First Library Card program, choosing from fun kid-designed cards, a lanyard, and an optional celebratory photo to mark the milestone.
- Other Options: Non-residents, temporary residents, and corporate users can also get cards depending on their needs. Check out our non-resident policy here.
You’ll receive your card on the spot and can start using it right away!
What You Can Do with Your Library Card
A BCLS library card unlocks so much more than books:
- Stream and Download: Enjoy eBooks, audiobooks, movies, and music through Libby, hoopla, and Kanopy (Bay County residents only).
- Library of Things: Borrow non-traditional items like STEM kits, board games, and more (Bay County residents only).
- Memory Lab: Digitize old photos, slides, and VHS tapes to preserve your family history.
- Events & Programs: From storytimes to crafts to technology workshops, there’s something for all ages.
- Research & Learning: Access databases, language learning tools, and genealogy resources.
