How to Get Your BCLS Library Card – And Why You’ll Love Having One
Whether you’re a lifelong reader, new to the area, or raising the next generation of book lovers, getting a Bay County Library System (BCLS) card is your first step toward unlocking a world of free books, movies, music, events, and digital resources.
Getting Your Library Card Is Simple
All Bay County residents are eligible for a free library card! You can stop by any BCLS branch to fill out a card application or download and print one in advance from our website here. Bring a photo ID with your current address, such as a driver’s license. If your ID doesn’t have your current address, you can bring a utility bill, student ID, or even receive a postcard at home for address verification.
Once your application is approved, you’ll receive your card on the spot. Parents or guardians will need to sign for minors under 18.
As a Bay County resident, your card gives you full access to our physical collections, digital materials (including eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming video), and special resources like our Library of Things, Memory Lab, and databases.
Special Program: My First Library Card
For kids 12 and under receiving their first library card, our My First Library Card program makes the experience extra special! Children get to choose from two adorable, kid-designed card options and receive a handy-dandy colorful lanyard and card holder. We also celebrate your young reader with a special (optional) photo op and frame! It’s the perfect way to start a lifelong love of reading and learning!
Additional Library Card Options
If you don’t live in Bay County, you still have options:
VLC Reciprocal Borrowers: If your home library is part of the Valley Library Consortium, you can borrow physical books and AV items at no cost (note: digital and special collections are excluded).
Non-Residents: A BCLS card can be purchased for $50 per person/per year, allowing you to borrow physical books and AV items (note: digital and special collections are excluded).
Temporary Resident Cards: Ideal for short-term access or getting started while your address is verified.
Corporate Cards: Available for local businesses for work-related checkouts.
